In today’s times, a global outlook-that combines the best of the local and the global is the need of the hour. The quick adoption of the framework for 21 st century skills can have undesired consequences, such as an over-emphasis on science, maths and technology and an underplaying of the place of arts, drama, dance, music and non-technical subjects in the curriculum. The best way to ride over this is to introduce a balanced approach in the teaching methods – with equal emphasis on technical as well as soft-skill knowledge. The other dent that needs to be overcome is result-based learning and the evaluation system. Therefore, instead of just focusing on academic results, more significance ought to be given to the overall development of a child.

Conventional thinking tells us that a good student is measured by their academic results and a school, by the number of toppers it produces. But is this model of evaluating the quality of education comprehensive, or is it flawed? It certainly is the latter, since the current archetype of result-oriented education can feed short-term goals but starts to fray at the edges when the student leaves the school environ and takes a step towards the wider world – be website it college, university or even professionally. Since the success of an individual does not purely depend on their academic brilliance in school, it is high time that the measuring worth for schools be shifted away from the former and be more focused on the overall holistic development of a child.

The Indian Education System needs a 360 degree overhaul in order to compete with the modern times. It needs to shift away from the traditional ways of imparting education and measuring a student & capabilities and focus more on enhancing the analytical and reasoning capabilities of a child.

A few changes that can be introduced in the Indian education system are:
(i) A modified and continuous assessment system can not only relieve a student of the stress of mugging up textbooks just before the exam, but will also enhance their thinking capabilities.
(ii) An academic approach that involves more research and experiments instead of just learning new concepts from books.
(iii) More focus and attention to extra-curricular activities and skill development.
(iv) Building schools and classrooms that are more creatively inclined.
(v) Introducing personalized education to cater to different niches of learners.
